BioGenma had been raised fairly traditionally, wanting to be a teacher from quite a young age. He’d always enjoyed maths, and it had come easily to him, so he had taken a degree in the subject and gone on to earn his teaching qualifications without too much effort.
Genma’s parents had arranged a marriage for him whilst he was still in university. Dutifully, he had married the young Shiranui (né Takahito) Mana and they had lived together for several years. She was quiet and unassuming, a research technician at a Teijin lab as he worked in the local high school, teaching algebra and trigonometry to a range of teenagers. They had been talking about trying for a child when she started to grow tired for no reason. The doctors diagnosed her with a form of cancer and despite their best efforts, she faded quickly. Genma supported her until the end, but when she died he was distraught. He packed up their town apartment and sold her clothes, applying for a job as far away from their home as possible.
Now, Genma has been teaching at Oshima for several years. He’s done his best to enjoy life as Mana wanted him to, but he’s still kept a certain distance between himself and the other teachers.
